At World Fantasy, I sat down with McKenzie Johnston Winberry to talk about my Apex Magazine short, “City of Refuge,” along with the forthcoming novel based on the story, Breaking the World.  In between, I geek out about my love of the magazine and book line and talk about why I think Apex works as well as it does.

Apex Magazine is also in the middle of a subscription drive.  To help them along, I’ve joined with editors Monica Valentinelli and E.Catherine Tobler to donate our editorial services to the cause.  We will critique your short story or novel excerpt (up to 7,500 words) with all proceeds going to the subscription drive.

Along with the critique, you get a year of Apex Magazine.  Only one critique is available per editor.  So if you’re interested, don’t wait too long to pick it up.
